[Projects] Crowds in Public Spaces
My personal Masters project in Design Ethnography
This project was completed as my personal field-study project to conclude my Masters in Design Ethnography. I set out to understand how crowds interact in train station concourses, and explored how the information that I collected during my fieldwork could be useful for designers.
Using predominantly in depth observational studies in two major train station concourses, and interviews with relevant stakeholders to supplement the data, an appreciation of how people experience transitory space was established.
The data, primarily field notes and sketches, was then analysed and synthesised using a grounded theory approach. From this data emerged a set of themes and patterns that I feel could be applied to help inform the design of future technologies, environments and interventions to be situated within public space, and specifically transitory spaces.
